Telnet.cgi ... the most dangerous script on the internet

Telnet.cgi ... the most dangerous script on the internet!

This program is incredibly dangerous, but incredibly necessary. If your web host doesn't allow you shell (telnet or ssh) access to your account, your only tool for managing your files is your FTP client. For most webmasters, that simply doesn't cut it.

Enter: telnet.cgi

This perl script will give you (simulated) shell access to your website, so that you can perform tasks such as changing permissions, creating tar files, debugging perl scripts, etc. As it does give you shell access, it's incredibly dangerous, and comes with the following recommendations and restrictions...
  • Only use this program for rudimentary purposes. This is not an interactive telnet session, but a simple command runner.
  • Turn it OFF (ie: delete it) when you're not using it. It's a simple matter to upload the program to your server, do your work, and then get rid of it. Even though we've built in security features, it's a good idea to not leave it laying around where someone with malicious intent can find it.
  • Don't use this for malicious purposes. Be responsible and safe.
