Hi. I am developing a new site and I have heard that it might be worth it to purchase an existing domain that is not developed but does come up in the search results if entered www.sitename.com. Will a newly purchased domain rank well in the search engines? Or is it a better idea to buy an older domain (2-3 years)? Thanks for the help.

All things being equal, get the old domain, if you're sure it's still in the search results.

Waiting for the sandbox to finish takes a long time. Make sure you build the new-old domain up slowly though, don't just pop the full site on it one day, that might trigger problems.

Check the old domain and see if it still has page rank.
