Hi--
It is time for me to look into ways to re-work my Website, and since I knew you are the gurus who can best tell me what I need in the way of software, I turned to you first!
The question is, do I need bulletin board software, wiki, blog, or something else, or even a combination of these?
Here is what is most important to me:
1. A place to post my twice weekly "Footprints/sm"--short blurbs. With this I
like having a list of all past ones, and the latest one showing up on the
front page. I currently e-mail these to a small list, and also post them to
my website at the same time. I have 590 collected so far.
2. A place to post my musings and articles--have several hundred of those
already posted on a WWWThreads BB system (now UBBThreads).
3. A place for people to post their articles which relate to my subject
matter (conversations, community/humanity change). In practice, this means I
ask people for permission to reprint their articles, then copy and paste them
on to the website.
4. Generating conversations. This is more likely, in my experience, in a
listserv-type setting than in a Web board. I am migrating my office to a
linux environment, if that gives any clues, although I am not a techie.
It is a pretty low traffic website.
So would a wiki fit my needs best, or a BB such as FusionBB, or just
plain old html (which I know only a little about--I do have Mozilla which
seems to have a good html editor)? Or should I look at some other sort of
software to help me do my website?
My website is currently offline, except for the homepage at
FootprintsintheWind.com (had someone hack into it over the weekend). There are probably about 3000 posts most of which I would like to salvage, from a MySql database.
So, what is your best advice? Thanks!
:- Doug.
