I currently have NetObjects Fusion 8.0 and I don't like it. Can anyone suggest another program that is not quite as expensive as Dreamweaver but is as functional and similar to use? Anything close would be helpful. I want to buy it ASAP.
Thanks for your time!

Nothing is as good as dreamweaver, just go online, if you are in the united states, go to craigslist.org, or try ebay, search the computer section for used or old dreamweaver, I just did and found the full suite for $75, that's MX. 2004 has nothing substantially improved over mx, and mx isn't that much better than 4, so it doesn't really matter which version you pick up. You are correct however, netobjects totally sucks, I can't believe somebody actually bought that company after they went under and revived the brand, that's like reviving the edsel, or any other failed car product line. Frontpage also sucks by the way, some people claim to like homesite, I've never seen it so I can't say, but I find it unlikely that it's even as good as dreamweaver, let alone better, given the price.

I'm partial to GoLive, been using it since it was CyberStudio and Mac only. But pricewise it's right up there with Dreamweaver. I believe both have 30-day trial versions so I'd say give them both a shot and see which you like better, then like lizardz said, see if you can find a used copy.

I use both Dreamweaver and Homesite and I have a great preference for Homesite as I do not need a WYSIWYG editor, and Homesite gives me all the functionality I could hope for or need. The main option I find between Dreamweaver and Homesite is, do you need to code visually, or are you prepared to code and then hope for the best. I always plan my site layout using Photoshop, so I already know how my site is going to look, and having had enough years of experience with coding in HTML, Perl, JavaScript and PHP, I find Homesite more than fits my bill.
However, it's all down to personal preference, so I would suggest having a look at the demo versions of all the programs you are considering, and then go for the one that you find the easiest to use and accomplish what you need.

I started on Dreamweaver and moved completely to Homesite, similar to uk_writer's scenario.

Not better, but different. Dreamweaver is a wysiwyg software. Homesite is used for direct (html, php, asp, etc) coding. They are tied together alas macromedia - thus can be used independently or compliment each other and be used together. Lizardz, download a free trial to see - but it is really just a text editor with functionality for writing code versus a wysiwyg approach.

I've been using a real text editor for years, never found anything about it that would make me want to switch, it has almost everything I need [except real site/folder management] and almost nothing I don't need, as close to a perfect piece of software as I've seen, all limitations considered, and the guy who writes it seems pretty reasonable. Editplus is nice, and was nice in 2000, no need to wait years. I especially like the configuration options, templates, etc... very easy to modify, I should check out the new version, but I like having a piece of software that doesn't require any updates and just works.
Plus the install exe fits on a floppy disk, program opens instantly, and has real multiple line search and replace across open files, what more can you ask?
Edit plus costs $30, is about 2.1 mB installed, homesite is $99, and needs 25 mB. Hmmm. I'll pass.

There are tons of free HTML editors at www.SnapFiles.com and they also have a large shareware section too. Many of my clients have downloaded great stuff there.
