Hey, Im new to this site and most web design/internet stuff, so if I say or do something stupid just correct me so I know. Anyway, I wanted to make a game site, I don't know if this would be able to create any revenue if I did this with no help as I wouldent know how to manage advertisment, or even know if I have good enough content/design to even get a steady traffic flow. The idea I had was use games from arcadetown.com, (if anyone knows a place I could get games from that would be greatly appreciated), and design a site around the games, with one google adsense ad on each page for revenue. How would I go about starting a site like this, including advertising, and the ammount of money I would need to start a site like this. If any of this is just a painfully stupid idea please tell me.

Not painful or stupid, we've all been in this situation from time to time - we all had to start somewhere didn't we?

Your initial set-up considerations should be:

Where will I have my site hosted and how much will this cost me a month? Some hosts will offer you a six month free trial period. PM me and I can give you the name of a host that will do that giving you 2.5Gb of disc space and a 20Gb bandwidth.

What bandwidth allowance do I have? Don't believe claims for unrestricted bandwidth as you might get it, but you will get it at incredibly slow speeds which will put your users off.

What language am I going to use for the site? This of course depends on your skills or the skills of the person/company you are having work on the site. It also could affect your choice of host service - I had this problem recently writing a site in php 5 only to find that most hosts only ran php 4.

Once you have those three key factors worked out you can look at your content and site design. There are several sites out there that will enable you to put their games on your site in return for a reciprocal link (Google is a good source for these), and if you PM me I can give you the URL of a site where you can get 7 very good flash games from.

I assume you already have a domain name all sorted out, if not then you should do that before you do anything else.

With regard to advertising, Google AdSense is a good way of generating revenue, and I know many sites now rely exclusively on them for any income. Don't expect to get rich overnight though, your main aim has to be not only to get people to your site, but to also keep them there, and at present AdSense does not open links in a new browser (unless u tab browse in Firefox using your middle button).

I hope this has been of some help to you. Any questions please feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to help is I can.
