Good morning everybody. I want to create a professional website and I am thinking about buying several design software to achieve my goal... but I don't know a lot about websites... So, I really need your help! I would like to know what is for you the best software for creating a website and what is also the best one for creating graphics, photos that I could include in it. I am determined to learn and to use the best tools. I am waiting for your ideas so let your imagination work! Give me also the reasons of your choice if you can... That will surely help me for my final choice. Thanks a lot and have a good day!!!

To creat a profetional web site, the tools of choice for me would be:

Photoshop: Best photo-editing software, there is almost no arguing this point. And once you get good enough, you can do all your design on photoshop.

Dreamweaver: This is the best coding sofware around. It wouldn't hurt if you study some html. You can find many guides to this on a google search.

With these two pieces of sofware you can create some profetional and high quality sites (keep in mind not everybody has the talent required to build a profetional site).

The opinions in this post are strictly IMO. HTH

Photoshop can have a bit of steep learning curve because of all of the 'options' available. Sometimes its a little pricey to begin starting webwork too. I personally prefer Photoshop myself but I've heard that Paintshop Pro is pretty good and a little easier on the pocketbook if you're playing around with it. If you're considering serious work or a career, go with Photoshop - Adobe has some excellent tutorials and lots of plugins to create some nice effects on site and through adobeexchange. Adobe's GoLive is ok if you end up buying a package but Dreamweaver is another industry standard. In the end it depends on how much you want to spend and how long you'd like to spend working through it. Some of the coding stuff in Dreamweaver takes a little getting used to as well.

Macromedia Fireworks + Macromedia Dreamweaver. They are like brother and sister.

Chapter "Don't!": do not use FrontPage!

Oh, and if you really like "pure design" you can look into getting Corel Draw. This is more for hard core design work, and although usefull for high-end web projects, this tools is marketed more for printed grafic design (usually requires more detail and quality than web)

    Just my 2 cents:
Photoshop and dreamweaver are the industry standards and paintshop pro is easier on the learning curve but learning photoshop is worth the effort. Most graphic programs have similar tools and do the same thing. Which still means a learning curve somewhere. If you can afford the best do it. I have heard that fireworks is good too but I havent needed to use it due to having learned photoshop way before I got dreamweaver. jmho smile

Bah! I find that wysiwyg usually turns out to be wygiqwyw instead.

Code it in Wordpad. Validate it at w3.org after.

Ultimately it's a personal preference, as you can see from the responses.

Most if not all have trial versions. Get a few of those and play with the software for the trial period to get a feel for what it can do and how easily you can transition into it.

For beginners FrontPage (not my favorite either) is a good place to start as it is still rated one of the more user friendly beginner programs.

Download a free template and play with editing it to get a feel for what you need to do and how easily you can do it in whatever program you choose.

Start off learning Dreamweaver, then move onto PhotoShop for the graphics. Read up on design tips and optimization, before creating your web sites.

    Because it creates dirty code.

dirty code can hurt you both in the fact that your page will take more to download (the more code, the heavier the page) and it will be in the way of spiders. Although I haven't heard of anybody having lower rankings due to dirty code, it surtanly won't help. My opinion is if you want the spiders to treat you well, you must treat the spiders well. And the way you treat a spider well is by giving it what it wants wink.

Spiders like good hand picked links, well written metas, clean code, a decent keyword dencity and clean, easy to read html coding, amongst other things.

On the same note - it can be a non-intimidating way for true beginners to get a feel for what it is they need to do without spending to much time or money.

Again, not a fan. I'm one of those who often calls it 'frontplague' or some other such fun nick name but the fact remains that many are more comfortable starting there and moving on rather than diving straight into the deep end without water wings.

It does bloat code and screw it up if you mess with the page to often, but unless you really mess up a page it should still render in most browsers.

However as you stated professional website, I would suggest that you hire a professional web designer to start you off with a design and learn to maintain it from that point on. It will be much easier for you, less time consuming, less painful, and probably cheaper in the long run.
