May be I asked an incorrect question.. how often does google do a links update ? Suppose if I get links today how will it take usually to take effect ?

It is estimated to be a few days to a few weeks for links to take effect.

G'day to everyone,

Google update the backlink usually within 6 to 8 week.if it update today then it effected you and depend on your working strategy for link building.

getting links is not all about PR, its about driving traffic, so even if google does not measure the link immediately, if the link is from a good site, it will drive traffic immediately, and isn't that more important. Go for links that drive traffic and the search engines will eventually follow.
