Just a question, if Google stops showing pagerank of all the websites.....how SEO experts will exchange LINKS or BUY links. As of now exchange or buying of links is purely done on PageRank.

According to me I would check below points before buying or exchanging links.
    1. Backlinks (again google will not show all the backlinks, so Yahoo may be used to check backlinks)
    2. Age of the website
    3. Quality of content (is the content fresh/unique)
    4. Online tools which may shows estimated number of visitors on that particular site.

    OR LINKING business would DIE???

Now may be SEO Experts would only use related forums, communities, classifieds, bookmarking websites and more....

Any inputs on this would be great!!

    Thanks
    Ravz!

Anyone who knows anything about Google and page rank has stopped worrying about it a couple of years ago; indeed, there are many who believe Google would be doing a favour to all by NOT displaying information that is at least three months out of date - and has a far smaller influence on things that matter (eg search ranking) than once it did.

For most "seo experts" the linking business has already died; and those who continue to buy and sell links are learning the hard way, and sharing their pain with anyone willing to listen.

That's their choice, but it does seem a painful one. Like that guy who liked a cold shower every morning. So he took a hot one. smile

linking should be done for relevant content that could help your users and possible traffic benefit . Google removed this to dissabuse SEOs from linking strictly for PR instead of looking for relevancy.

If link buying went away, nothing would change for most webmasters and site owners.

pagerank might not be important at all but it has its uses , or to see a websites linking score without having to check all their links. Most websites i have seen that rank high on popuar keywords have atleast a PR2-3 so its not important but PR helps to analyze a site more faster

Yep, don't chase it, but taken as a general trend, Page Rank can give you useful data when grading which sites to seek links from.

Certainly not the be-all/end-all, but mildly useful. About like using slippers to go skiing. Fun when you first hear of it, but not really worth pursuing in any meaningful way once you spend time with the concept. wink

I beg to differ from the elite - those who say that PR has lost its relevance. It looks as if it is more relevant now than in the immediate past. The real PR and not the deliberately outdated PR the toolbar shows.

SportsGuy has this habit of hitting the nail on the head. smile

Do a simple check at the top ranking sites for a highly competitive search phrase and you will find the dominance of sites which have a PR of at least 2 or above.

Page rank is important and here is the evidence:
Write in google the following and compare the first two results and note the pagerank of each one
write (Arab American Chamber of Commerce)

    best regards.

I suspect it's unwise to draw any conclusions about Google from one search result, even one featuring a site you care about.

Point is, PR is one of some 200 factors. The others are invisible. You do the math.

it is true that pagerank is a good way to show the quality of a website, but not how many consider that the higher the pagerank the better the site would rank too or the better the link is, most websites with a PR2-4 can rank well in almost all competitive search phrase.

interesting to note. One of my clients "visible toolbar" PR values has gone from 4 to 2 in past 3 months.

What do you think happened? Our rankings and traffic are at an all time high.

didn't see that one coming. And our rankings are in HIGHLY competetive loan keyphrases

might been that the site lost some high value links.

It's a fast-moving niche - see what the competition is up to!

(And check the links again ... it's a niche famous for links going south!).

    Hi,
My website has been online since September,2007. But my pagerank on goole's index is in low position. Would you know why? Please take a look on my site. Thank you!

It takes many months for Toolbar PR to show up.

Don't worry about the number of links that Google shows; they only show about 5% of what they actually find.
