I am concerned about a few link exchange requests I have received in the past few weeks. The email they send me states the link description they have used to link to my site. The anchor text will be from my meta tag description but the actual description of what the site is about is from another site.

I am still new to SEO and am concerned that I am missing something here. Should I be concerned that this is occuring or could it just be an error on the link managers part? I replyed to the last request I had and asked where they got the description for my link.

Any suggestions on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Maria

It's usually best to ignore any such requests, unless it is crystal clear from the email that the writer is a human being who has actually visited your page AND the page you will be linking to is related, ALSO the page where the link to your site will be placed.

Even then, you'll need to vet both URLs and be satisfied with their safety and quality before you need worry about the title and description.

In 99% of cases, you'll never get that far, as the email almost certainly came from a robot or 'linking' software, and the 'writer' has never been within 1000 miles of your site.

It's spam, and needs labeling as such. Bin it, Don't ever respond to it!

If you get a real request from a real person (I had one once, 2002, I think it was!), they they will either ask you to provide a description (polite), or suggest the one from your meta tag (helpful).

Never write to spammers; it confirms you exist and read their cr*p - which not only encourages them, it increases their profits when they sell your email to 1000 more spammers!
