The best tip for social bookmarking is to write content that everyone can enjoy, if your sites about clothes, try writing about latest trends from a different angle. Uniqueness is key so a good writing style is highly advised!

getting links and trackbacks are a good thing if you can get your site visitors to do the posting. If you post yourself on a social site such as technorati or digg, its not a good thing. So, if you have good content, give your visitors a way to post it on a social media site from your site. Digg and Technorati have widgets that you can add to your page. Many CMS systems also provide these widgets.

Yes and no.
Quality content is king online in many cases, but unique different and fresh usually wins in the social circles...
You also have to account for different attitudes in different places. Digg, for example, hates SEMs. So, if they even think you're an SEM, they will bury your posts, no matter how unique, useful or entertaining they are...
