    Interesting read.

"The results of my test surprised me. Not only did I find that Google apparantly does not give any preference to sites with valid HTML, Google actually seemed to prefer the sites with blatant errors in their code." eek

There are certain classes of error in coding that will trip a bot up and lead to all or part of a page not being indexed.

It is always a good idea to do a quick sanity check on at least a few pages to make sure that you don't have such an error on your site. For pages that are build dynamically it is very easy to have incorrectly nested tags, and that too is very easy to check.

It is not necessary to have 100% valid code, but it is a good idea to eliminate the possibility of there being some major coding error that browsers can cope with, but which bots cannot.

I am always amused to see how many pages have a badly formed title tag for example: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&q=title+meta+name+description+content A quick validator check would have soon revealed those errors.
