1 - how long do you guys test changes for? Color changes and on/off placements, mostly (meaning, the ad on the right hand side is on, then it's off - but for how long?) I know more time allows a larger dataset to be collected, but what's the general consensus?
2 - Do any of you, in fact, do testing where you turn one whole unit off completely to try to drive any clicks across the other units (or, more specifically, to determine if that particular unit is bleeding any clicks from your other units by possibly offering too many options to users)?

If you use a banner ad manager you can get the testing to rotate throughout your site so you can test which ads do better.
I've talked to several people about testing the ads and I've done it myself--the best way to do it is to change to a different format once a day. So each day has a different format or different ad network (YPN versus AdSense). This is mainly due to the fact that you have to allow YPN and AdSense to re-visit your site and find out what your page is about.

Thanks Bill. Appreciate it.
Looks like this will be waiting a bit until I can afford the banner software.
